SECONDARY CAMPUSES GET OUT AT 1:10 P.M. THEN THE DISTRICT WILL BE CLOSED FOR WINTER BREAK BEGINNING MONDAY, DECEMBER 22, STAFF WILL RETURN MONDAY, JANUARY 5TH, AND CLASSES RESUME THAT WEDNESDAY ON THE SEVENTH.

OUR NEXT TEXT PAYER TUESDAY EVENT WILL BE IN JANUARY ON THE 13TH AT 9:30 A.M. AT SYCAMORE SPRINGS MIDDLE SCHOOL.

I'M THE PROUD PRINCIPAL OF SYCAMORE SPRINGS, ELEMENTARY.

I AM EXCITED TO BE HERE WITH OUR COUNSELOR, MS. CARROLL, AND SOME MEMBERS OF HER CARE COUNSELING CREW.

THIS IS A REALLY COOL OPPORTUNITY, AND I'M THANKFUL TO SHINE A SPOTLIGHT ON AN INNOVATIVE PROGRAM THAT MS. CARROLL HAS WORKED WITH THESE KIDS TO CREATE.

MS. CARROLL EARLIER THIS YEAR, MADE A DECISION TO FIND A WAY TO GIVE OUR STUDENTS SOME VOICE WHILE FOSTERING SOME LEADERSHIP SKILLS.

SHE'S WORKED WITH THIS GROUP ALL YEAR LONG, AND I THINK SHE'S DONE JUST THAT.

I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO THE EXPERTS AND LET THEM GO.

I'M THE PROUD COUNSELOR AT SYCAMORE SPRINGS.

THIS IS MY THIRD YEAR THERE AT SYCAMORE, AND I'M SO EXCITED TO GET TO HONOR ALL THE WORK THAT THIS CARE CREW HAS DONE.

I NOTICED THAT WE HAD AN OPPORTUNITY AT THE END OF LAST YEAR TO CREATE A BRAND NEW LEADERSHIP TEAM.

I WENT TO THE FOURTH GRADE TEACHERS, AND I TOLD THEM MY IDEA TO CREATE THIS NEW TEAM, AND I SAID, I NEED SOME RECOMMENDATIONS.

GIVE ME YOUR BEST LEADERS.

SOME KIDS WHO COULD STAND UP THERE IN FRONT OF 350 STUDENTS EVERY MONTH AND HELP ME TO CO TEACH MY MONTHLY CARE CLASS LESSONS.

THESE ARE SOME OF THE STUDENTS THAT THEY RECOMMENDED.

I WENT TO THEM AND TOLD THEM ABOUT WHAT I HAD IN MIND AND HAD THEM COMPLETE OUR LIGHTHOUSE LEADERSHIP APPLICATION.

THEY HAVE HIT THE GROUND RUNNING BEGINNING IN AUGUST.

THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL, WE CAME BACK, AND I SAID, RIGHT, GUYS, IT'S TIME TO GO TO WORK.

WE'VE GOT OUR VERY FIRST ASSEMBLY NEXT WEEK.

LET'S START PLANNING AND PREPPING.

THEY HAVE JUST DONE AN AMAZING JOB.

EVERY MONTH, I TELL THEM, WE'RE UP, WE'RE LIVE, AND WHO KNOWS WHAT CAN HAPPEN? SOMEONE COULD BE SICK. WE HAD SOMEONE SICK TONIGHT.

BUT THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO JUST STEP UP AND BE THERE FOR YOUR TEAM MEMBER.

OF COURSE, THE TEXAS MODEL OF SCHOOL COUNSELING, HELPING TO FOSTER INTERPERSONAL EFFECTIVENESS, TEACHING KIDS HOW TO BE GREAT PEOPLE AND HOW TO BE LEADERS.

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THEY'RE DOING.

WE ALSO LOOKED AT THE MRA DATA AT THE END OF LAST YEAR.

WE SAW THAT WE HAD ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO HELP BUILD TRUSTING RELATIONSHIPS IN THE SCHOOL BUILDING BETWEEN STUDENTS AND ADULTS, AND ALSO TO REALLY FOSTER A SENSE OF BELONGING.

I THINK THAT THEY'VE HELPED ME TO STEP RIGHT UP AND TO CREATE, A SENSE OF BELONGING IN THE SCHOOL FOR ALL AND HELP TO FOSTER THOSE HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS.

I WILL TURN IT OVER TO OUR FABULOUS CARE CREW TO TELL YOU MORE.

ONE WAY WE HELP OUR SCHOOL IS BY TEACHING THEM ABOUT THE EIGHT HABITS IN FUN AND ENGAGING WAYS.

AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PICTURE, WE'RE TEACHING THEM ABOUT WILDLY IMPORTANT GOALS, ALSO KNOWN AS A WIG, WHILE WEARING WIGS TO MAKE IT FUN.

KIDS ARE EVEN ASKING HOW THEY CAN HELP BE A PART OF THIS CARE CLASS.

THIS IS ONE OF THE MANY THINGS WE DO IN THE CARE CLASS CREW.

WE MEET MS. CARROLL ABOUT ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK TO PLAN AND PREPARE FOR MONTHLY CARE CLASS LESSONS.

EACH LESSON, WE DO SKITS, PLAY GAMES, AND TRY TO GET THE AUDIENCE TO PARTICIPATE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

LAST MONTH, WE INVITED STUDENTS FROM THE AUDIENCE TO STEP INTO THE COURAGE ZONE BY PERFORMING IN FRONT OF THEIR PEERS.

SOME DID THE CHICKEN DANCE, AND OTHERS DID THE MACARENA.

WE EVEN HAD SOME TEACHERS WHO CAME UP AND SHOWED WHAT IT'S LIKE TO HAVE A WIN WIN SOLUTION.

AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PICTURE IN THE LEFT, ME AND HAILEY WERE CREATING SIGNS THAT WE LIKE TO USE IN OUR CARE CLASS LESSONS.

THIS GETS THE AUDIENCE ENGAGED.

WE TAKE TURNS BEING LEADERS AND BE MCS.

THERE'S AN OLD SAYING THAT GOD GAVE YOU TWO EARS AND ONLY ONE MOUTH.

WHENEVER YOU ARE HAVING CONVERSATIONS WITH PEOPLE, IT'S REALLY, IMPORTANT JUST TO LISTEN BECAUSE PEOPLE FEEL RESPECTED WHENEVER YOU'RE LISTENING TO THEM.

I ALSO THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT THAT WHEN YOU'RE GIVEN FEEDBACK THAT YOU ALWAYS CIRCLE BACK TO SEE WHAT IMPACT THAT MADE.

IF WE MAKE CHANGES HERE IN OUR SCHOOLS THAT MAYBE YOUR COUNSELOR, YOUR PRINCIPAL RECOMMENDED, IT'S HELPFUL FOR US TO GO BACK AND SAY, HEY, LOOK, WE TALKED ABOUT THIS.

REMEMBER, I LISTENED, AND HERE'S HOW THAT CHANGE WAS IMPLEMENTED IN YOUR SCHOOL.

TAKE THAT INTO LIFE.

I'VE HAD THE PRIVILEGE TO HIRE A LOT OF PEOPLE IN BUSINESS AND ALL DIFFERENT THINGS.

LET ME TELL YOU, PROACTIVENESS.

FOLKS THAT ARE WILLING TO GO THE EXTRA MILE, FIND THINGS THAT AREN'T QUITE RIGHT, AND GO MAKE THEM RIGHT WITHOUT HAVING BEEN TOLD TO DO IT.

I'D ENCOURAGE YOU NOT ONLY TO FOCUS ON THAT HABIT, BUT ALSO, ESPECIALLY AS A STUDENT LEADER TO EMPLOY THAT HABIT, BEING PROACTIVE WITH THE INFLUENCE THAT YOU HAVE IN YOUR SCHOOL, SUPER IMPORTANT.

RANDY DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB TALKING ABOUT TAXES AND RECAPTURE AND HAD SOME GREAT QUESTIONS FROM THE AUDIENCE.

BUT HE USED A LOT OF VISUALS AND MADE IT VERY CLEAR TO UNDERSTAND.

THEY DID PHENOMENAL, AND I THINK THAT WAS IT FOR ME.

UNFORTUNATELY, I MEAN, THE CAMPUSES HAVE BEEN FILLED WITH THEIR HOLIDAY PERFORMANCES AND MUSICALS.

I KNOW SOME OF THE COLLEAGUES HAVE MADE THE OTHER ONES, BUT THEY DID A GREAT JOB.

BUT HERE'S THE DATA FROM THIS PARTICULAR EVENT.

THERE WERE OVER 1,000 GIFTS DONATED TO THIS EVENT, SERVING 158 FAMILIES AND DRIPPING SPRINGS ISD, A TOTAL OF 465 CHILDREN.

EACH FAMILY GOT TO COME IN LAST SATURDAY AND GET A BAG, AND IN THAT BAG WAS AT LEAST ONE SPECIAL GIFT THAT WAS REQUESTED BY THE STUDENT THAT WAS ON THE MITTEN.

SOME GOT A FEW EXTRAS, SOME GOT EXACTLY WHAT WAS LISTED ON THEIR MITTEN.

IN ADDITION TO THAT, BEFORE THEIR PARENTS LEFT, AFTER PICKING IT UP, THEY GOT TO STOP BY AND GET A FREE BRAND-NEW COAT.

THEY GOT TO GET A BLANKET, AND THEY GOT TO GET A BOOK, AND MY MOST FAVORITE SECTION WAS THIS BOTTOM LEFT PICTURE OF TOYS.

FOR EVERY CHILD THAT YOU HAD IN YOUR FAMILY, YOU PICKED UP A GAME TO TAKE HOME TO ENCOURAGE FAMILY NIGHT WITH THESE FAMILIES IN OUR COMMUNITY.

I WENT HOME THAT DAY, AND I JUST FELT GRATEFUL TO LIVE IN A COMMUNITY WHERE SO MANY PEOPLE COME OUT AND DONATE AND HELP FOR THOSE THAT WOULD NOT HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE A HOLIDAY COMING UP LIKE THIS.

IT WAS VERY REWARDING.

ALSO, MARK YOUR CALENDARS, THE HEART OF A TIGER GALA IS GOING TO BE ON FEBRUARY 5, THIS YEAR, AT CANYON WOOD RIDGE.

WE SET UP BIWEEKLY MEETINGS WITH THE CITY THAT MYSELF AND THE CONSTRUCTION TEAM, WE MEET WITH THEIR DEVELOPMENT GROUP, AND WE'RE WORKING TO JUST STAY OUT IN FRONT SO THAT WE DON'T GET DELAYED ON ANYTHING.

WE'RE WORKING WITH THEM ON CONTINUING TO GET MORE THE FULL PERMIT AS WE GO.

TODAY'S CONVERSATION, I THINK WE'RE EXPECTING TO RECEIVE A TRENCHING AND UTILITY PERMIT TOMORROW, I BELIEVE.

THAT GROUP IS JUST SUPER FLEXIBLE.

THE DISTRICT INTENTIONALLY HIRED A CONSULTANT WITH NO TIES TO ANY ARCHITECTURAL FIRM, AND IN SEPTEMBER 2022, WE MADE IT UNEQUIVOCALLY CLEAR TO THE ARCHITECT THAT THE DISTRICT WANTED TO KEEP A DISTINCT SEPARATION BETWEEN THE ENTITIES THAT PROVIDED PRE-BOND PLANNING AND THE POST-BOND DESIGN WORK.

THE DISTRICT'S EXPECTATION OF CLEAR ARM'S LENGTH RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PRE-BOND CONSULTANTS AND POST-BOND DESIGN PROFESSIONALS WAS NOT ONLY FUNDAMENTAL TO ENSURING FAIRNESS AND TRANSPARENCY, WHICH ARE ESSENTIAL, BUT TO PROTECTING THE CREDIBILITY OF OUR PLANNING EFFORTS.

THE DECISION TO INCLUDE A CONSULTANT INTEGRALLY INVOLVED IN DEVELOPING PRE-BOND MATERIALS HAS UNDERSTANDABLY CAUSED CONCERN AND DISAPPOINTMENT AMONGST THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND THOSE IN THE COMMUNITY.

IN THIS LETTER, THERE ARE FOUR DISTINCT THINGS THAT THIS BOARD IS REQUESTING FROM OUR PARTNER.

WE REQUEST THESE THINGS AND OFFER THESE REQUESTS IN A SPIRIT OF PARTNERSHIP AND GOOD FAITH AND AN UNDERSTANDING THAT OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR PARTNER HAS BEEN STRONG AND GOOD.

THE BOARD REMAINS HOPEFUL THAT THE MATTER CAN BE RESOLVED COLLABORATIVELY IN A WAY THAT REINFORCES SHARED COMMITMENTS TO TRANSPARENCY, ETHICS, AND PUBLIC TRUST.
