WE WILL BEGIN WITH OUR OPENING CEREMONY WITH PLEDGES TO THE AMERICAN FLAG AND THE TEXAS FLAG.

THEY PERFORM WITH THE MARCHING BAND. YOU'VE PROBABLY SEEN THEM ON A FRIDAY NIGHT OR AT A CONTEST, IF YOU WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO WITNESS THAT.

AND THEN IN THE SECOND SEMESTER, THEY PERFORM ON THEIR OWN AND COMPETE IN INDOORS IN A SCHOOL GYM TO RECORDED MUSIC. THEY COMPETE IN THE TEXAS COLOR GUARD CIRCUIT STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

THEY ARE IT'S CALLED A SCHOLASTIC NATIONAL A, WHICH MEANS THAT THEY ARE GROUPS THAT ARE, DESIGNED AND COMPETE AND PERFORM AT A LEVEL THAT WOULD BE NATIONALLY COMPETITIVE.

AND SO THIS GROUP OF 15 PERFORMED AT THE TEXAS A&M REED ARENA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

WHAT DAY WAS THAT? MARCH 30TH. MARCH 30TH. END OF MARCH.

AND ALSO SCORED THE HIGHEST, OBVIOUSLY THE HIGHEST SCORE FROM BOTH OF THE ROUNDS IN THAT CLASS. SO WE'RE VERY PLEASED. I'M GOING TO PASS THE MIC DOWN.

I'LL EXPLAIN WHY THERE WERE MORE THAN MORE YEARS THAN THEY'VE BEEN IN HIGH SCHOOL LISTED IN JUST A SECOND.

THIS IS DEREK VEREEN. HE'S OUR COLOR GUARD DIRECTOR.

THIS IS HIS SECOND YEAR WITH US. HE'S DONE AN EXCELLENT JOB FROM A TRAINING STANDPOINT, BUT ALSO CHOREOGRAPHICALLY AND DESIGN WISE AND REALLY TAKING THE SKILLS THAT THEY ALREADY HAD DEVELOPED AND MAKING THEM EVEN STRONGER.

AND THIS IS BRIAN MAYER, ONE OF OUR ASSISTANT DIRECTORS AND ALTOGETHER, WE KIND OF SUPPORT THE PROGRAMS THAT WE HAVE IN THE TIGER BAND PROGRAM.

SO WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT. WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.

TWO MORE THINGS AND I'LL BE DONE. THE REASON WE HAVE SOME STUDENTS THAT, LIKE YOU SAID, SIX YEARS, RIGHT? OKAY. SO BACK IN THE DAY, WE ACTUALLY HAD WHAT WE CALLED A CADET PROGRAM WHERE WE HAD 6TH, 7TH AND 8TH GRADERS THAT WOULD COME OVER TO THE HIGH SCHOOL MAYBE 6 OR 7 TIMES AFTER SCHOOL IN THE SECOND SEMESTER.

WE'RE REALLY HOPING TO START THAT BACK UP AGAIN AND CREATE AN ACTUAL MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM IN ORDER TO REALLY KIND OF SPREAD THE GREAT NEWS OF THE COLOR GUARD ACTIVITY AND TO BUILD UP OUR NUMBERS SO THAT MORE STUDENTS CAN EXPERIENCE THIS REALLY UNIQUE AND INTERESTING ACTIVITY. THE LAST THING I WOULD LIKE TO DO BEFORE WE GET TO SHAKE HANDS IS I'M GOING TO CALL UP ANGELA GOMEZ SO I CAN PRESENT HER WITH A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP MEDAL [APPLAUSE].

WE HAVE TWO STUDENT ATHLETES THAT COMPETED AT THE STATE MEET FOR TRACK THIS YEAR.

WE HAVE A PRETTY SHORT SEASON. IT GOES FROM ABOUT JANUARY TO THE END OF APRIL.

BUT THESE LADIES GOT TO GO ALL THE WAY TO COMPETE AT THE STATE MEET THIS YEAR.

OUR FIRST ONE IS ADELINE SPIES. SHE'S OUR JUNIOR POLE VAULTER UP THERE IN THE PICTURE ON THE RIGHT.

ADELINE JOINED US AS A FRESHMAN, WHICH WAS ALSO HER FIRST YEAR OF POLE VAULTING, WHICH, IF ANY OF YOU KNOW, POLE VAULT, THAT'S VERY SURPRISING BECAUSE POLE VAULTING IS A VERY SPECIALIZED TRACK EVENT, BUT SHE'S BEEN REALLY GOOD AT IT. SHE HAS A BACKGROUND IN CHEERLEADING AND GYMNASTICS, SO THAT HAS HELPED HER DRASTICALLY IN IT.

SHE QUICKLY FOUND SUCCESS IN THE SPORT AS A SOPHOMORE LAST YEAR, WHERE SHE TIED THE 21 YEAR OLD SCHOOL RECORD OF 10 FEET, 6 INCHES. SHE DEFINITELY WANTED TO OWN THE RECORD HERSELF, THOUGH.

SO THIS YEAR, AS A JUNIOR, SHE QUICKLY FOUND SUCCESS.

IN DISTRICT SHE PLACED SECOND, WHICH QUALIFIED HER FOR AREA, AND THEN AT THE MEET, SHE PLACED FOURTH, AND SHE IMPROVED THE SCHOOL RECORD ALL THE WAY TO 11 FT, 6 INCHES.

THIS GOT HER INTO THE REGIONAL MEET IN SAN ANTONIO, WHERE ONLY THE TOP TWO ATHLETES QUALIFY FOR STATE.

IT'S VERY, VERY, VERY DIFFICULT TO GET TO THE STATE MEET.

BUT SHE ROSE TO THE OCCASION. SHE HAD AN AMAZING DAY.

AND THAT PICTURE IS ACTUALLY FROM THE REGIONAL MEET WHERE SHE WAS THE REGIONAL CHAMPION, AND SHE HAS A NEW VAULT RECORD OF 12FT EVEN [APPLAUSE].

THAT FIRST PLACE AT REGIONALS ALLOWED HER TO COMPETE AT THE STATE MEET.

IT WAS HER FIRST STATE EXPERIENCE. SHE GOT TO COMPETE AT UT WITH EIGHT OTHER ATHLETES FROM AROUND THE STATE.

SHE DIDN'T HAVE THE DAY THAT I THINK SHE WANTED TO HAVE AT THE STATE MEET, BUT I FULLY EXPECT HER TO BE THERE NEXT YEAR.

IT WAS STILL FUN. YEAH. SO CONGRATS ADDIE [APPLAUSE].

OUR SECOND ATHLETE THAT COMPETED AT THE STATE MEET WAS ISABELLE CREW.

SHE JOINED DSHS THIS YEAR AS A FRESHMAN AFTER HER FAMILY RELOCATED HERE FROM THE HOUSTON AREA TO BE CLOSER TO HER PARALYMPICS TRAINER IN WIMBERLEY.

I DON'T THINK ANY OF US FULLY COMPREHENDED IN THE BEGINNING JUST HOW GOOD IZZY IS AND HOW WELL KNOWN SHE IS IN THE PARA SPORTS ATHLETICS, FOR TRACK AND FIELD AND IN BASKETBALL. BUT HER PATH TO STATE IS A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT AS UIL CONSIDERS THE WHEELCHAIR DIVISION AS A PILOT PROGRAM. SO THEY DON'T GO THROUGH THE SAME QUALIFICATIONS THAT ADDIE DID WITH POLE VAULTS.

ONE OF THE DIFFICULTIES CURRENTLY WITH THE WHEELCHAIR DIVISION IN THE PARA SPORTS IS THAT THEY HAVE DIFFERENT CLASSIFICATIONS BASED ON DIFFERENT DISABILITIES.

IZZY IS CLASSIFIED AS A T54 CLASSIFICATION, WHICH REALLY JUST MEANS THAT SHE HAS FULL CORE AND UPPER BODY CONTROL.

HOWEVER, AT THE YOU'LL MEET ALL PARASPORT CLASSIFICATIONS COMPETE TOGETHER.

THIS YEAR I BELIEVE THERE IS ABOUT NINE LADIES IN ALL THE THREE DIFFERENT EVENTS THAT THEY HOLD AT THE UIL STATE MEET.

FOR HER, YOU JUST HAVE TO HIT DIFFERENT QUALIFYING TIMES OR DIFFERENT MARKS TO QUALIFY FOR THE STATE, AND SHE COMPLETELY BLEW PAST ALL OF THEM. AND SO SHE WAS ABLE TO COMPETE AT STATE FOR ALL THREE AVAILABLE EVENTS.

AT THE STATE MEET, SHE PLACED SECOND IN THE 100, SECOND IN SHOT PUT, AND IS STATE CHAMPION IN THE 400 WITH A TIME OF 105:51.

SHE DOES HAVE A COUPLE OTHER ACCOLADES THAT I WANT TO ADD OUTSIDE OF COMPETING FOR US AS A TIGER, SHE IS ALSO A NATIONAL RECORD HOLDER, SO FOR THE U17 T54 CLASSIFICATION, SHE HAS A NATIONAL RECORD IN SHOT PUT, THE 800, 1,500, AND 5K, WHICH SHE EARNED TWO WEEKENDS AGO AT THE MEXICO GRAND PRIX.

SHE ALSO QUALIFIED FOR THE PARA TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN EUGENE, OREGON THIS SUMMER, AND SHE CAN NOW BE RANKED IN THE US AND INTERNATIONALLY.

THIS CONTINUES HER PATH TO THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF BEING SELECTED FOR TEAM USA IN 2028 FOR THE PARALYMPICS IN LOS ANGELES, SO [APPLAUSE]. WE'RE ALL GOING TO BE VERY JEALOUS OF THIS LAST FACT, IN THAT SHE LEAVES TOMORROW TO COMPETE IN THE WORLD GRAND PRIX IN SWITZERLAND THIS WEEKEND AND PARIS THE FOLLOWING WEEK.

OUR SPEECH AND DEBATE PROGRAM AT THE HIGH SCHOOL IS VERY COMPETITIVE.

BUT AS YOU CAN SEE ON THE SCREEN, WE HAD 19 STUDENTS QUALIFY THIS YEAR FOR TFA STATE, WHICH IS ONE OF OUR MAJOR STATE ORGANIZATIONS FOR SPEECH AND DEBATE.

THIS YEAR AT THE STATE TOURNAMENT, WE HAD A TOTAL OF SEVEN STUDENTS THAT ADVANCED TO ELIMINATION ROUNDS, INCLUDING A TEAM THAT MADE THE FINALS IN THEIR EVENT AND GOT SECOND TO FLOWER MOUND HIGH SCHOOL.

BUT WE'VE ALSO HAD SEVERAL STUDENTS THIS YEAR QUALIFY TO UIL STATE AND CX DEBATE.

WE'VE HAD STUDENTS ADVANCE TO UIL REGION. WE ALSO HAVE SEVEN STUDENTS THAT ARE GOING TO BE COMPETING THIS SUMMER AT NATIONALS IN DES MOINES, IOWA. AND SO I'M GOING TO PASS THE MIC DOWN AND LET OUR STUDENTS INTRODUCE THEMSELVES, WHAT GRADE LEVEL THEY'RE IN AND WHAT EVENTS THEY DO.

WE COMPETE IN MOST PEOPLE KNOW THEATER FOR ONE ACT PLAY, BUT WE ALSO HAVE THE THEATRICAL DESIGN CONTEST WHERE THEY SELECT A PLAY OR A MUSICAL FOR EVERY STUDENT WHO COMPETES IN THE STATE TO READ, ANALYZE, AND THEN DESIGN FOR IN A VARIETY OF CATEGORIES.

ALL OF THE CATEGORIES ARE SET DESIGN, HAIR AND MAKEUP DESIGN, COSTUME DESIGN AND MARKETING DESIGN.

AND THEN THERE'S ALSO A GROUP DESIGN WHERE THEY SELECT FROM A VARIETY OF OPTIONS TO FORM A DESIGN AS A COHESIVE GROUP.

WE QUALIFIED IN HAIR AND MAKEUP DESIGN. WE HAD A STUDENT QUALIFY THERE, MOLLY GRETZINGER, WHO COULD NOT BE WITH US TONIGHT. WE ALSO HAD ADRIAN FISHER AND LEELA BERTRAM QUALIFYING INDIVIDUAL SET DESIGN AND THEN THE FOUR STUDENTS HERE ADRIAN, LEELA, HANNAH AND ELISE QUALIFIED IN GROUP DESIGN.

SO WE WENT TO THE AUSTIN ISD PACK THIS PAST WEEKEND TO COMPETE IN STATE, AND WE TOOK HOME FOURTH AND FIFTH PLACE IN INDIVIDUAL SET DESIGN.

LEELA TOOK FOURTH. ADRIAN TOOK FIFTH. AND THEN OUR GROUP DESIGN TOOK FIRST IN THE WHOLE STATE.

THAT IS TOTALLY THE BAR.

AND THEN TO GET RECOGNIZED BY THE THE ORGANIZATION THAT IS PARTNERING WITH US IN THIS IS, IS, I THINK, JUST ICING ON THE CAKE. BUT TO ME, WHEN YOU LOOK AT THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING IN PUBLIC SCHOOL AND SPECIFICALLY DRIPPING SPRINGS AND WHAT SETS US APART AND WHAT DO WE DO DIFFERENTLY WHEN YOU ARE ABLE TO WATCH OUR STUDENTS WHO RATHER IT'S AUTOMOTIVE OR WELDING OR VET SCIENCES OR HEALTH SCIENCES, 145 STUDENTS LEFT OUR LEAVING ARE CAMPUS WITH REAL ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS, WITH JOB READY SKILLS OR SKILLS THAT ARE GOING TO HELP THEM ADVANCE IN THEIR UNIVERSITY. SO IT'S ONE OF MY HAPPIEST DAYS OF THE YEAR, AND I JUST WANT TO REALLY GIVE PROPS TO THE DISTRICT FOR SUPPORTING THESE PROGRAMS AND FOR THE CTE DEPARTMENT. EVERY YEAR IT GETS BETTER AND BETTER.

TWO ARE GOING TO SCAD. ONE IS GOING TO GO TO UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AND BECOME A TEACHER.

ONE'S GOING TO PACE IN NEW YORK. ONE'S GOING TO LONDON TO THE GUILD SCHOOL.

I MEAN, THESE KIDS ARE ROCK STARS. AND IT WAS JUST SO IMPRESSIVE TO WATCH AND HEAR THE TALENT THAT EACH ONE OF THESE STUDENTS HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO OUR PROGRAM. IT'S A LOCAL FAMILY WHO LOST THEIR SON IN A CAR ACCIDENT, AND THEY RAISED MONEY TO SUPPORT GRIEF COUNSELING AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR OTHER FAMILIES WHO HAVE LOST CHILDREN. AND IT WAS THEIR ANNUAL FUNDRAISER.

IT WAS AMAZING. THAT'S OUR HAYS COUNTY SHERIFF THERE WITH US AND A FEW OTHER COMMUNITY MEMBERS THAT ARE REALLY ACTIVE IN OUR COMMUNITY.

SO ROB INVITED US TO THAT. AND IT WAS IT WAS GREAT.

I DON'T KNOW, ROB, HOW MUCH DID THEY MEET A GOAL THAT NIGHT? WAS IT? WE EXCEEDED OUR FUNDRAISING GOAL FOR THE EVENT.

REFLECTIONS IS A PROGRAM THAT ENCOURAGES ORIGINAL WORKS OF ART IN RESPONSE TO A STUDENT CREATED THEME.

AND SO THIS YEAR, THE THEME, THE THEME WAS ACCEPTING IMPERFECTION.

AND CATEGORIES ARE DANCE, FILM PRODUCTION, LITERATURE, MUSIC COMPOSITION, PHOTOGRAPHY, AND VISUAL ARTS.

THEY GO FROM THE LOCAL LEVEL TO STATE TO THE NATIONAL LEVEL.

AND THIS YEAR THEY HAD OVER 850 STUDENT ENTRIES IN THE NATIONAL PTA REFLECTIONS PROGRAM.

OF THOSE, THEY RECOGNIZED ABOUT 200 STUDENT ARTISTS WITH AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE AND MERIT.

AND THEN SEVEN STUDENTS WERE HONORED WITH OUTSTANDING INTERPRETATION.

BUT ONE OF OUR STUDENTS WAS RECOGNIZED AS A NATIONAL PTA MERIT AWARD WINNER FOR HER MUSIC COMPOSITION CALLED PERFECTLY IMPERFECT. AND SHE'S FROM DRIPPING SPRINGS ELEMENTARY AND HER NAME IS ELISE ACOSTA.

SO I WANTED TO RECOGNIZE HER. I THOUGHT THAT WAS A PRETTY INCREDIBLE HONOR TO GET NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED BY THAT PROGRAM.

THE PTA COUNCIL REMINDED EVERYONE ABOUT THE SUMMER CONFERENCE, AND THEY ENCOURAGED IT WAS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR EVERY PTA TO SEND A GROUP TO THAT. IT IS JULY 18TH THROUGH 20TH.

I'M NOT SURE IF EVERY PTA IS GOING, BUT I KNOW I TALKED TO SEVERAL OF THE LEADERS IN THAT ROOM AND THEY SAID THEY DID HAVE A GROUP GOING, AND THEY WANTED TO REMIND ALL THE NEWLY ELECTED OFFICERS OF ANY PTA BOARD MEMBERS THAT THEY HAVE TO REGISTER FOR THEIR POSITION AND DO THE ONLINE TRAINING, AND THAT'S IT. AND A MASTER'S PROGRAM IN EDUCATION AND THAT BUT MOST OF THEM ARE FULLY CERTIFIED WITH EXPERIENCE EVEN.

SO, OUR POOL IS VERY, VERY THEY'RE QUALIFIED.

THEY'RE CERTIFIED. IT'S A VERY HEALTHY APPLICANT POOL WE HAVE THIS YEAR.

I THINK YOUR PRINCIPALS NOT GOING TO LOOK THAT WAY BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO CALL THEM OUT.

AND SO I WANT TO EMPHASIZE THAT THAT'S OUR GOAL AT LEAST I THINK I MEAN, FOR ME THAT AS I SIT BACK, THAT'S OUR GOAL TO HIRE HIGHLY QUALIFIED PEOPLE IN THEIR SUBJECT AREA.

BUT THAT CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT THAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT AND MOSTLY TELLING THE COMMUNITY THIS IS, IS THAT PEDAGOGY, THE TEST THAT YOU HAVE TO TAKE TO BE A TEACHER.

AND SO I GAVE AN EXAMPLE THE OTHER DAY WHEN I WAS TALKING TO A PARENT ABOUT IT, THAT IF YOU HAVE AN ORGANIC CHEMIST AND, YOU KNOW, I, I WAS A CERTIFIED TEACHER, I COULD NEVER TEACH ORGANIC CHEMISTRY.

BUT IF YOU HAVE SOMEONE WHO THAT IS THEIR SPECIALTY AND THAT THEY MAY NOT BE, YOU KNOW WHAT WE CALL A CERTIFIED TEACHER.

THEY HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE TO TEACH THAT CLASS, AND THEY NEED THAT PEDAGOGY TO BE ABLE TO TEACH KIDS.

AND SO I WANT TO REITERATE, REALLY FOR THE COMMUNITY PURPOSE, THAT THAT'S OUR GOAL.

AND THAT IT'S NOT THAT WE'RE NOT IT'S NOT THAT WE HAVE UNQUALIFIED PEOPLE TEACHING OUR KIDS SUBJECT MATTER.

IT'S IT'S THAT EXTRA PIECE THAT WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY HAVE GOING INTO IT TO, TO COMPLETE THE WHOLE PICTURE.

SO MOSTLY FOR THE COMMUNITY TO SAY THAT, BECAUSE I KNOW THIS HAS BEEN A PRETTY, PRETTY WIDE TOPIC OF CONVERSATION IN THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS.

AND WE DO. WE HAVE A COUPLE PEOPLE WHO MAY HAVE STARTED WITH THE DOI OR STARTED WITH NOT BEING FULLY CERTIFIED WHEN THEY FIRST CAME TO THE DISTRICT, BUT THEY ARE ALL ON A PLAN. THEY ARE ALL IN AN ALTERNATIVE CERTIFICATION PROGRAM BECAUSE IT IS IMPORTANT FOR THEM TO HAVE THE CONTENT AND THE VAST KNOWLEDGE, BUT ALSO BE FULLY CERTIFIED THROUGH SPEC IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.

FOR THEM TO HAVE BOTH PIECES. WE DO FEEL LIKE IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT FOR THEM TO HAVE BOTH.

AND SO IF SOMEBODY WASN'T FULLY CERTIFIED, WE'VE GOT THEM ON AN INDIVIDUALIZED CERTIFICATION PLAN TO HAVE THAT CERTIFICATION BECAUSE WE WANT THEM TO HAVE BOTH PIECES,

BE FULLY QUALIFIED, BUT FULLY CERTIFIED IN THEIR AREA EVEN IF IT'S A SUBJECT OFTEN.

SO, YES. BUT THIS YEAR WE ARE SO LUCKY THAT OUR POOL IS FULLY QUALIFIED AND FULLY CERTIFIED IN THEIR SPECIFIC SUBJECT AREA AND SUBJECT MATTER.
