THEY GAVE UP BASICALLY EVERY SINGLE SATURDAY OF THE FALL SEMESTER TO COME WORK ON THE ROBOT.
THEY HAD TWO FREE SATURDAYS, THANKSGIVING WEEKEND AND THIS LAST SATURDAY.

SO THE TOTAL NEEDS LIST, IF YOU WILL, STARTED AT ABOUT 825 MILLION, IF YOU DIVIDE THAT UP INTO FIVE YEARS AND NOT CALCULATING ANY NEW NEEDS IN BETWEEN, THAT INCLUDED FOUR CAMPUSES RENOVATIONS, LIKE I SAID, TECHNOLOGY, TRANSPORTATION.

TWO WERE SELECTED FROM EVERY ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL.
AND THEN WE ALSO HAD TWO ADDITIONAL MEMBERS WHO JUST SERVED AS COMMUNITY MEMBERS AT LARGE.
THEN WE HAD TWO EX-OFFICIO TRUSTEES WHO ATTENDED, AND THEN OUR COMMITTEE FOR OUR COMMUNITY WAS FACILITATED BY OUR ADMINISTRATIVE ADVISORY COMMITTEE, WHO SAT AT THE TABLES, LISTENED TO THOSE CONVERSATIONS, BROUGHT ANY CONCERNS BACK SO THAT WE COULD FURTHER DISCUSS THOSE.
SO THIS IS OUR ATTENDANCE ZONING ADVISORY COMMITTEES.
ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE YOU SEE OUR ELEMENTARY ATTENDANCE ZONING COMMITTEE.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE WANTED THEM TO REALLY BE THINKING ABOUT WAS IF THEY CAN ACHIEVE BALANCE, HOW CAN THEY HELP US DO THAT? WELL, SO THAT IN THE FUTURE, AS WE CONTINUE TO GROW, WE'RE POTENTIALLY, IF WE DON'T GROW AS FAST AS WE ANTICIPATE, DEFERRING THE TIMING OF FUTURE SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION.
SO WE WANTED TO DO THAT WELL IN TERMS OF GROWTH.
WE WANTED TO BE LOOKING AT PROXIMITY TO THE EXTENT POSSIBLE, KEEPING SUBDIVISIONS TOGETHER AND THEN ZONING STUDENTS TO THEIR CLOSEST CAMPUS, AND THEN STRIVING TO MINIMIZE THE NUMBER OF TIMES THAT A STUDENT IS REZONED.
WE KNOW THAT WE'VE GOTTEN FEEDBACK ABOUT THE NUMBER OF TIMES A NEIGHBORHOOD IS REZONED.
THEY WERE REALLY FOCUSED ON THE NUMBER OF TIMES A STUDENT WAS BEING REZONED.
SO THIS HAS BEEN THE MEETING PROCESS THROUGHOUT THE COMMITTEE WORK.
AND WE'RE AT OUR FINAL MEETING, THE DECEMBER BOARD MEETING FOR SECOND READING AND APPROVAL.
ONE OF THE IMPORTANT THINGS THAT WE WANTED TO DO THROUGHOUT THIS PROCESS WAS MAKE SURE THAT THE MAPS THAT WERE IN CONSIDERATION WERE GOING OUT FOR COMMUNITY FEEDBACK, THAT WE WERE GIVING AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET FEEDBACK.
SO THE COMMITTEE STARTED WITH THREE INITIAL MAPS.
FROM THERE, THE COMMITTEE THEN DREW A NEW MAP THAT WAS ZONING OPTION ONE.
WE PUT THAT MAP BACK OUT AND GOT ADDITIONAL FEEDBACK, BECAUSE WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT THE MAPS WERE BEING SEEN BEFORE THEY WERE BEING CONSIDERED, SO WE GOT ADDITIONAL FEEDBACK INTO MORE COMMUNITY MEETINGS ON THAT MAP.
AND SO YOU CAN SEE HERE THE DATES IN WHICH WE HAD COMMUNITY PRESENTATIONS, THERE WERE A TOTAL OF TWO DIFFERENT SURVEYS THAT WENT OUT DURING THIS PROCESS, AS WELL AS SIX COMMUNITY PRESENTATIONS.
WE ALSO HAD INFORMATION OUT IN VARIOUS PAPERS, INCLUDING THE COMMUNITY IMPACT, TO MAKE SURE THAT WE WERE ADVERTISING THIS AS MUCH AS WE COULD TO OUR COMMUNITY, SO THAT THEY KNEW THAT WE WERE HAVING THE CONVERSATION AND COULD GIVE US FEEDBACK, BECAUSE THAT REALLY WAS HOW THE MAPS WERE BEING PLANNED.
AND WE DID GET RESPONSE FROM ACROSS THE DISTRICT.
THIS IS THE COMMITTEE MAP WITH ONE CHANGE.
SO THE COMMITTEE RECOMMENDED OPTION ONE, THE CHANGE THAT I MADE TO THAT MAP AFTER GETTING THE ADDITIONAL FEEDBACK WAS PLANNING UNIT 18, WHICH YOU CAN SEE KIND OF IN THAT ORANGE ON THE FAR RIGHT SIDE.
THAT PLANNING UNIT GAVE FEEDBACK THAT THEY WOULD BE DRIVING DOWN TROUTWINE, THAT THEY HAVE A BIT OF A HAIRPIN TURN, AND THEN IT'S A ONE LANE CROSSOVER ROAD OVER A LOW WATER CROSSING.
AND SO IT DID MAKE SENSE TO GO AHEAD AND LET THEM CONTINUE WITH THEIR COMMUTE DOWN FITZHUGH AND AROUND THE DRIPPING SPRINGS ELEMENTARY, RATHER THAN, FROM THAT SAFETY PERSPECTIVE, ROUTING THEM UP TROUTWINE WHERE THEY WOULD HAVE TO BE CROSSING A ONE LANE ROAD.
AND SO WE TOOK THAT FEEDBACK TO THE ADMINISTRATIVE ADVISORY COMMITTEE, HAD A CONVERSATION ABOUT IT, MADE THAT ONE CHANGE AS THIS FINAL RECOMMENDED MAP FROM THE COMMUNITY COMMITTEE MAP. BUT OTHERWISE THAT IS THE MAP THAT WE ARE BRINGING FORWARD.
ONE OF THE IMPORTANT PIECES THAT I THINK HELPS OUR COMMUNITY TO UNDERSTAND OUR PLANS WITH THIS PROCESS IS THAT ONCE WE CAN GET THROUGH AND FIGURE OUT OUR FINAL MAP, THAT GIVES US THE ABILITY TO THEN MOVE INTO THE SECOND PHASE, WHICH IS GRANDFATHERING.

AND WE SAID, WE'RE DOING A REZONING PROCESS, AND YOU MAY HAVE TO WIND UP GETTING SOME NEW STUDENTS IN YOUR SCHOOL THAT HAVE NEVER GONE HERE, AND IT'LL BE THEIR FIRST TIME.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO? AND, YOU KNOW, THEY DIDN'T EVEN HESITATE.
AND THEY LOOKED AT US AND THEY SAID, YOU KNOW WHAT? WE'RE GOING TO WELCOME THEM WITH OPEN ARMS. WE'RE GOING TO GREET THEM AT THE FRONT DOOR.

THE IMPACT THAT VOUCHERS IS GOING TO HAVE UVALDE, THEY'RE GETTING READY TO BUILD A MENTAL HEALTH UNIT IN THEIR COMMUNITY BECAUSE OF EVERYTHING THEY'VE BEEN THROUGH.
