WHILE IT HAS DEFINITELY CHANGED A LOT OVER 20 YEARS, I CAN SAY IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST DECISIONS WE COULD HAVE EVER MADE FOR OUR KIDS. I'M HERE TODAY BECAUSE MY 11 YEAR OLD ASKED ME TO COME AND TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE POLICY SIDE OF THINGS THAT HE'S GOING TO SHARE. IN JANUARY, WHEN THE SEVENTH GRADE CHOICE SHEETS CAME OUT, MY SON WAS PRETTY UPSET TO LEARN THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER REQUIRED HEALTH OR CAREER CLASS FOR NEXT YEAR. WHILE IT IS TRUE THAT THE STATE HAS MANDATED THAT THERE ARE NEW TEKS TAUGHT IN HEALTH AND CAREER, IT DOES NOT MANDATE THAT IT BE TAUGHT AS A SEPARATE COURSE. IN HIGH SCHOOL, I WAS BURSTING WITH PRIDE. THERE WERE OTHER STUDENT PRESENTERS IN THE AUDIENCE. THERE WERE TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS, AND I HAD AN ADMINISTRATOR FROM A MUCH LARGER DISTRICT COME UP TO ME LATER AND SAY THAT THEY WERE BLOWN AWAY, AND THEY WANT TO REPLICATE IT IN THEIR DISTRICT, AND ALSO THEY GIVE CREDIT TO THE DRIPPING SPRINGS EDUCATION FOUNDATION FOR THE SEED GRANT FOR THIS PROGRAM. WELL, I GOT PUT IN THE HOT SEAT TO DEFEND THE BEST RESTAURANT IN DRIPPING SPRINGS AREA. I SAID, HEY CITY STORE, WE CAN DEBATE LATER BECAUSE IT IS THE BEST RESTAURANT, BUT NO, IT WAS WONDERFUL AND THERE WAS A POOR STUDENT THAT HAD TO GO AGAINST ME, BUT SHE DID FABULOUS TOO BUT I LOVE OUR CAMPUS VISITS, THIS ONE IN PARTICULAR. JUST SEEING THE BAND REALLY SEEING KIND OF HOW INTEGRATION BETWEEN THE CLASSES ARE GOING IN SIXTH GRADE, IN PARTICULAR, WAS KIND OF A HIGHLIGHT OF THIS CAMPUS VISIT, AND IT WAS EXCITING BECAUSE I HAVE A RISING SIXTH GRADER NEXT YEAR. SO THE SOCIAL SECURITY ASPECT AS WELL. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE I KNOW WE'VE ALL TALKED ABOUT THIS AND SOME TYPE OF SPECIFIC HOMESTEAD PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION FOR CIVIL SERVANTS. IF THERE'S SUCH A DISCREPANCY BETWEEN TYPICALLY CIVIL PAY AND CIVIL SERVANT PAY. THEY GOT TO VISIT WITH THE HR TEAM ABOUT THE DIFFERENT BENEFITS, ABOUT AFTER SCHOOL KIDS CLUB OUR IN DISTRICT CHILDCARE AND ALL THE DIFFERENT THINGS, HOW TO BECOME A STUDENT TEACHER HERE, AND WE HAD AT LEAST THREE OF THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO CAME HAVE ALREADY HAD INTERVIEWS AND OUR PRINCIPALS ARE READY TO HIRE THEM. WE HAD A YOUNG LADY FLY IN FROM KANSAS JUST TO COME TO OUR JOB FAIR BECAUSE SHE'S GOING TO BE MOVING HERE, AND SO WE HAD SOMEBODY FROM KANSAS. WE HAD SOMEBODY DRIVE IN FROM HOUSTON, FROM WACO. WE HAD ANOTHER WOMAN FLY IN FROM CALIFORNIA, AND SO IT'S JUST OUR TEAM IS DOING A FANTASTIC JOB OF ADVERTISING, AND OUR [02:15:10] PRINCIPALS AND OUR ENTIRE TEAM IS JUST DOING SUCH A GREAT JOB ABOUT CELEBRATING ALL OF THE GREAT THINGS HAPPENING HERE, AND PEOPLE WANT TO COME HERE, AND SO WE'RE SUPER EXCITED.
