I AM WITH THE DISD COUNCIL OF PTAS, WHICH IS OUR DISTRICT LEVEL PTA, AND WE JUST WANTED TO RECOGNIZE THAT ALL SEVEN OF THE SCHOOLS THAT WERE ELIGIBLE TO HOLD SPELLING BEES DID SO THIS YEAR.

AND WE ARE HERE TO RECOGNIZE THE CHAMPIONS FROM EACH OF THOSE SCHOOLS.

SCRIPPS SPELLING BEE HAS BEEN BEING HELD IN AMERICA SINCE 1925.

SO NEXT YEAR IS 100 YEARS, WHICH IS AMAZING.

AND EVERY YEAR, SCHOOLS AND REGIONS HOLD SPELLING BEES AT THEIR LOCAL AREAS IN THE HOPES OF MAKING IT TO THE SCRIPPS NATIONAL SPELLING BEE, WHICH IS HELD IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

EVERY YEAR, THE WEEK AFTER MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND.

THIS YEAR, OUR CLASSROOM SPELLING BEES WERE HOSTED BY PTAS AND SPONSORED AT ALL SEVEN ELIGIBLE SCHOOLS.

AND I JUST WANTED TO POINT OUT THAT WE HAVE A NUMBER OF STUDENTS WHO HAVE ADVANCED TO THE AUSTIN REGIONAL BEE, AND FROM THE AUSTIN REGIONAL BEE, THE NEXT LEVEL IS THE NATIONAL BEE.

SO, IT'S VERY EXCITING.

AND I ALSO WANT TO SAY THAT IN THE PAST TEN YEARS, SEVEN NATIONAL CHAMPIONS HAVE COME FROM TEXAS.

SO, WE HAVE HIGH HOPES FOR OUR AMAZING LEADERS HERE.

AND SO WE COMPETE AT THREE DIFFERENT LEVELS EVERY YEAR.

AND OUR SECOND DAY BACK FOR THIS SEMESTER, WE WENT TO OUR DISTRICT MEET IN KALAHARI OR IN ROUND ROCK, WHICH WAS COOL, AND WE TOOK A RECORD NUMBER OVER 90 KIDS.

AND WE ENDED UP ADVANCING 33 TO THE STATE LEVEL.

UNFORTUNATELY, DUE TO SCHEDULING CONFLICTS AND ILLNESS, WE ENDED UP TAKING 28 OF THEM TO HOUSTON TWO WEEKENDS AGO, AND WE HAD A BLAST.

AND WE WERE SO PROUD THAT WE HAD SEVEN FINALISTS AND THREE ADVANCERS.

AND WE WILL BE GOING TO ANAHEIM AT THE END OF APRIL TO COMPETE AGAINST 22,000 OTHER HIGH SCHOOL KIDS.

SO, WE WANTED TO TAKE SOME TIME TO RECOGNIZE THEM BECAUSE THEY'VE PUT IN LONG HOURS AND WE'RE SO PROUD OF THEM.

OBVIOUSLY, WE DON'T HAVE EVERYBODY HERE TONIGHT BECAUSE WE HAVE SO MANY KIDS THAT ARE OUT AND ABOUT WORKING AND DOING OTHER SCHOOL THINGS.

BUT SUPER HAPPY TO HAVE OUR REPRESENTATIVES HERE.

THE THEY SWAM BOTH THE 200 AND 400 FREE RELAYS.

AND THE INTERESTING THING HERE IS THAT YOU NOTICE WE HAVE A FRESHMAN, SOPHOMORE, JUNIOR, SENIOR.

AND THAT HAS BEEN A TREND NOW FOR THREE YEARS WHERE WE'VE GRADUATED A SENIOR, AND IN COMES A FRESHMAN AND TAKES THAT SPOT.

AND THEY'VE MANAGED TO GET FASTER EACH TIME, WHICH IS PRETTY COOL.

LITTLE STORY. THEY HAD A GREAT WEEKEND.

WENT FASTER IN EVERY SINGLE EVENT FROM THEIR SEED TIMES.

OUR HIGHEST SEED OF THE WEEK GOING IN WAS 19TH PLACE.

AND WE IMPROVED ON ALL OF THOSE, WHICH GOT US FROM ZERO POINTS FROM THE SEEDING TIMES ENTERED TO 45, AND THEY FINISHED IN 14TH PLACE, WHICH IS PRETTY INCREDIBLE BECAUSE IT TAKES SO MUCH TO GET THERE.

AND THERE ARE SO MANY KIDS THAT SWIM THEIR FASTEST AT REGIONALS.

JUST TO BE AT STATE THAT IMPROVING IS QUITE A FEAT.

SO, THEY KILLED IT THIS WEEKEND.

JUST A QUICK TALK ABOUT EACH ONE OF THEM.

IZZY CAME IN KIND OF A DEER IN HEADLIGHTS, FRESHMAN A LITTLE BIT.

BUT AN EXPERIENCED CLUB SWIMMER.

AND THE STORY I'M GOING TO TELL IS THE OTHER DAY, SHE WAS GETTING A RIDE HOME, AND SHE'S GOT A CLUB MEET COMING UP, AND SHE SAID, WELL, I HOPE I CAN SWIM AS FAST, BUT I JUST REALLY LOVE THOSE GIRLS.

AND I THINK THAT'S WHY I SWAM SO FAST, WHICH I THINK IT JUST SAYS A LOT ABOUT OUR TEAM ATMOSPHERE, AND I LOVE TO HEAR THAT KIND OF THING.

LAUREL HERE, OUR SOPHOMORE IS A PRETTY LOVELY YOUNG LADY, I THINK.

BUT THE FUNNY STORY ABOUT THIS ONE IS THAT SHE.

THIS IS HER FOURTH TIME UP HERE.

AS A SOPHOMORE. SHE RAN AT STATE IN CROSS COUNTRY TWICE, AND SHE HAS SWUM AT STATE TWICE.

AND THAT'S THE CHALLENGE OF MAKING IT IN ONE SPORT, MUCH LESS TWO.

AND AS A FRESHMAN AND AS A SOPHOMORE, THAT THAT IS JUST INCREDIBLE TO ME.

MACY MCCURRY HERE, OUR JUNIOR, IS A HISTORY MAKER BECAUSE SHE WON OUR FIRST FIVE BAY DISTRICT TITLE LAST YEAR.

AND THEN SHE WENT BACK-TO-BACK IN THE 50 FREESTYLE THIS YEAR.

SHE ALSO SET OUR SCHOOL RECORD IN THE HUNDRED FREESTYLE THIS YEAR WITH A 5206.

AND THEN WE'VE GOT ANNA, WHO IS OUR TWO-TIME SENIOR TEAM CAPTAIN.

SORRY, SHE'S NOT A TWO-TIME SENIOR.

THAT DOESN'T SOUND QUITE AS COOL.

SHE IS A TWO-TIME CAPTAIN WHO IS NOW A SENIOR.

BEEN KIND OF THE HEART AND SOUL OF OUR TEAM, BUT SHE'S A TEAM RECORD HOLDER IN THE 500-YARD FREESTYLE AND BROKE HER RECORD THIS YEAR AT STATE.

AND SHE ACTUALLY JUST RECENTLY SIGNED TO SWIM AT MARIST COLLEGE IN NEW YORK.

SO, SHE'S GOT THAT TO LOOK FORWARD TO.

I AM GOING TO SAY THAT I AM SUPER PROUD OF THIS TEAM BECAUSE I MENTIONED THE RECORDS BY MACY AND ANNA.

THEY ALSO BROKE BOTH THE SCHOOL RECORDS IN THE 200 AND 400 FREE RELAY.

AND THEY ARE THEY WENT FAST ENOUGH THAT THEY ARE UP FOR ALL AMERICAN CONSIDERATION, WHICH MEANS THAT THEY ARE IN THE BALLPARK OF HAVING A TIME THAT IS IN TOP

AND I'M GOING TO SAY IT AT THE BOARD MEETING, BECAUSE IN THE HISTORY OF OUR SCHOOL, WE HAD NEVER BEAT AUSTIN WESTLAKE IN A RELAY THIS YEAR.

BOTH THE BOYS AND THE GIRLS MADE THAT HAPPEN.

SO, WE ARE COMING ON STRONG.

YOU'RE NOT DONE YET. BECAUSE I DO HAVE TO SAY THAT ANDREA MCCARTHY HERE, RIGHT NEXT TO ME, HAS DECIDED THAT THIS IS HER LAST YEAR, AND SHE WILL BE RETIRING.

AND THOSE OF YOU THAT DON'T KNOW ANDREA, SHE STARTED THE SWIM PROGRAM.

THEY'RE THE ONES THAT KNOW HER ARE SHAKING THEIR HEADS.

BUT I THINK SHE'S FOR REAL THIS TIME BECAUSE SHE DID PUT IT IN WRITING IN AN EMAIL.

SO, I'M GOING TO START PLANNING LIKE IT'S REAL.

AND THEN WHEN SHE COMES BACK NEXT SEASON, I'M GOING TO BE THE HAPPIEST GUY IN THE DISTRICT IF WE CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN.

BUT SHE'S EARNED ALL THE RELAXATION AND TIME OFF THAT SHE CAN AFFORD.

BECAUSE WHEN THIS WAS JUST A SITUATION OF SWIMMING AT FOUNDERS OUTSIDE IN THE SNAKE INFESTED POOL, THERE ARE ALL KINDS OF STORY ABOUT FINDING SNAKES AND MICE AND FROGS AND ANY KIND OF CRITTER YOU CAN THINK OF.

AND THERE'S ALSO A STORY OF COACH MCCARTHY SCOOPING THEM OUT WITH THE NET AND ALL THE THINGS.

SO, WHEN IT WAS ROUGH SLEDDING, KEEPING THE TEAM AFLOAT SHE'S BEEN DOING IT FOR 18 YEARS, AND I JUST APPRECIATE HER EVERY DAY BECAUSE NUMBER ONE, TO BUILD SOMETHING UP AND THEN TO BE ABLE TO HAND IT OFF TO SOMEBODY AND TRUST IN THAT, I JUST.

WE RECEIVED A COST PROPOSAL OF $233,450 FROM QUALITY HARDWOODS.

WHICH IS A AN APPROVED VENDOR THROUGH THE BILLBOARD COOPERATIVE AND A VENDOR THAT WE'VE USED OFTEN OVER THE YEARS FOR GYM FLOOR MAINTENANCE, REPAIRS AND REPLACEMENT.
